About our association

The Fysisch-Mathematische Faculteitsvereniging (FMF) considers November 5 1959 as its date of foundation. Its 700 members study Computing Science, (Applied) Mathematics, (Applied) Physics, Biomedical Technology or Astronomy at the University of Groningen. One of the objectives of the FMF is to increase contact between its members and their future employers. The union stimulates its members in their scientific development and in establishing contact with the scientific staff

The scientific part of our association consists of an annual symposium and many lectures, excursions or company visits. The committe 'Huygens' is responsible for organizing these lectures and excursions. Reports are made of all events, which can be found at the following links:

Besides scientific activities, the FMF also offers informal activities, such as the monthly cocktail night, movie nights, sports activities and parties. These parties are often organized in collaboration with students of other faculties of our university. Each year, a free almanac is published, of which the member information pages are available on our website as well. Our members can order books through the FMF at a discount. Furthermore, our members receive a magazine, called 'Periodiek', five times a year. This magazine is made by members of the FMF and contains scientific-oriented articles as well as reports of events of our association.
